Wales Millennium Centre
Situated in the beautiful Cardiff Bay, The Wales Millennium Centre has become one of Cardiff’s biggest tourist attractions over the last decade. Its reputation, as one of the most signature arts and cultural destinations in Europe, has put Cardiff on the map bringing award winning shows and attractions to the Welsh Capital.
With its unmistakably structure, the centre sits in the heart of Cardiff Bay only a short walk from the hotel. It boasts an incredible and stunning metal dome exterior.
‘Creu Gwir Fel Gwydr o Ffwrnais Awen’ translating into ‘Creating truth like glass from the furnace of inspiration’ and an English inscription of “In These Stones Horizons Sing” are both scripted onto the exterior dome. Both written by Welsh poet Gwyneth Lewis who, was given the brief of ‘Unmistakably Welsh and Internationally Outstanding’ when asked to create the design’s inscription, which is now unquestionably how the Centre stands, within the arts world and of course in our capital city.
The lettering has formed windows that are illuminated from the bar area inside the Millennium centre at night.
Lord Lloyd-Webber called the Centre “the best theatre built in the world in the last 50 years.”
The Centre has played host to some of the greatest musicals in the world including Wicked!, War Horse, Dirty Dancing and the multi award winning performance of ‘The Lion King’, as well as opera, ballet and contemporary dance, hip hop and stand-up comedy, art exhibitions and many more.LESS INFORMATION
